‘A Merry Friggin’ Christmas’ Starring the Late Robin Williams

With less than 70 days left until Christmas, what better way is there to warm up to the holiday than to watch the upcoming day unfold on the big screen? Comedy Christmas flick “A Merry Friggin’ Christmas” will be released in theaters on November 7, allowing viewers plenty of time to embrace or prepare for spending the end of the year with family.

‘A Merry Friggin’ Christmas’ depicts a dysfunctional family who is forced to spend the holiday together. The family in question is made up of Joel McHale, Lauren Graham, Clark Duke, Candice Bergen, and the late Robin Williams. The film was written by Michael Brown and directed by Tristram Shapeero of “Community.”

McHale stars as Boyd, a family man who has every desire to spend Christmas away from the man who raised him. As his role as a big brother, Boyd cautiously has agreed to go back home for the holidays for his nephew’s baptism, which is conveniently on December 24. Graham takes on the role of Boyd’s wife and voice of reason as she tries to reunite the family despite their issues. With Bergen and Williams starring as the parental units and Clark playing the younger brother, the comedy could not have asked for a more eclectic cast.

Although Boyd makes it to see his family in one piece, he is faced with a conflict when he realizes he has left his son’s presents back home. Now forced on an eight-hour road trip with his father to save Christmas, Boyd has difficulty keeping his cool. He appears to have many more obstacles during the adventure, including a noteworthy one in the form of a run-over Santa.

Williams, in a role that is one of his last, takes the film’s spotlight. Rated PG-13, “A Merry Friggin’ Christmas” fits into the sub genre of holiday movies that will make you want to reevaluate where you stand with the ones you love or, perhaps, loathe.

A Merry Friggin’ Christmas’ dashes into theaters Nov. 7.
