Kate Nash Celebrates New Album and Her Return to Music at L.A.’s Fonda Theatre

Following her turn last year as model-turned-wrestler Rhonda “Britannica” Richardson on the hit Netflix series “Glow,” actress and singer Kate Nash has turned her attention to her first love, music, with the release of “Yesterday Was Forever,” her first album in five years. To celebrate, Nash has set out on a North American tour that she recently brought to the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California, where fans came out in full force to hear her unique brand of alt-pop.

Nash, a native of London, first came to prominence circa 2005 after utilizing what was then a fresh and new platform — Myspace — to share her music. With her distinctive voice and style, she was able to separate herself from the masses. In just two short years, she found herself with a number one album, “Made of Bricks,” and an international hit single, “Foundation.” At the Fonda show, Nash, to the delight of fans, performed several songs from her first album, including not only “Foundation” but also “Mouthwash, “Pumpkin Soup,” Play,” and “Dickhead,” the latter being a particular crowd pleaser.

Ever the performer, Nash took the stage draped in a flowing robe of sorts that she wore with fishnet stockings and silver open-toed shoes. At one point, a fan threw a pair of heart-shaped glasses that made their way to stage, prompting the singer to pick them up and wear them for a few numbers. Nash’s theatrical style paired perfectly with not only her bubbly music, but also her fun spirit.

With the old favorites came the new material. “Yesterday Was Forever,” which Nash revealed to the crowd took four years to complete, was recorded right here in Los Angeles, where she also filmed “Glow.” She introduced most of the new songs with some thoughts or anecdotes. Before launching into “Twisted Up,” she chatted about an unnamed boyfriend who taught her how to wrestle, but “not just with [their bodies.]” On a more serious note, she preceded “Musical Theatre” with a PSA regarding brain health, imploring the importance of recognizing and dealing with mental health issues.

Next up, Nash can be be seen in the second season of “Glow,” which recently wrapped production. In a recent interview with Entertainment Voice, she revealed that fans can look forward to more intense wrestling scenes, as well seeing a more serious side of Britannica.
