Power 106 Presents the Best of Hip Hop and R&B with Cali Christmas
Ani Mikaelian
Christmas has come a little early in Los Angeles this year, snow or not, thanks to Power 106’s Cali Christmas that will be happening at the Forum on Friday, Dec. 5.
This year Cali Christmas will be seeing performances by J. Cole, Big Sean, T.I., Lil Jon, Kid Ink, G-Eazy, Tinashe and Kalin and Myles, along with special performances made by Chris Brown and Trey Songz. As if that wasn’t enough to name-drop, there will be surprise guests along the way to keep guests on their toes.
Jermaine Lamarr Cole, better known as J. Cole, is set to release his fifth studio album, “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” on Dec. 9. A video trailer was released in mid-Nov. with footage highlighting the behind-the-scenes process of making the album. The name itself was revealed as the address of Cole’s childhood home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. J. Cole stated the album would have no lead singles and very little promotion in the meantime. The album is already available for pre-order through iTunes, and, no doubt, new songs from that album will be heard at the Christmas special.
Big Sean has come a long way since he released his first official mixtape, “Finally Famous: The Mixtape,” in 2007. He went on to release two more: “Cruel Summer” in 2012 and “Hall of Fame” just this past year in 2013. The latest, “Hall of Fame,” features guest appearances including Nas, Common, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, Jhené Aiko and Kid Cudi.
American rapper T.I. released his ninth studio album, “Paperwork,” on Oct. 21 through Grand Hustle Records and Columbia Records. “Paperwork” is only the first in a trilogy, with the rest (“Paperwork: The Return” and “Paperwork: Love and Liability”) following suit in 2015. Recently he has collaborated with the likes of Iggy Azalea, Chris Brown, Rick Ross and many more.
