‘Seventh Son’ Hits Theaters Feb. 6

With the new year, more films based on novels arrive, including Sergei Bodrov’s very own “Seventh Son.” Based on novel “The Last Apprentice” by British author Joseph Delaney, the fantasy flick is hitting theaters nationwide on Feb. 6.

Focused on the character of Thomas Ward, played by Ben Barnes, he is the seventh son of a seventh son, which makes him the apprentice of the Spook, played by Jeff Bridges. While learning how to fight evil spirits with the Spook through the adventures they take in their land, they are faced with the strongest evil power of all in the form of Mother Malkin, who is portrayed by Julianne Moore.

Joining Barnes, Bridges and Moore is a mighty talented cast made up of Kit Harington as Billy Bradley, Alicia Vikander as Alice Deane, Olivia Williams as Mam, Antje Traue as Bony Lizzie, and Djimon Hounsou as Radu, an original character not found in the novel. The film has it all in the fantastical realm, with witches, boggarts and ghouls, who make it all the rarer to survive in this olden country.

All three leads are no strangers to the fantasy genre. From Bridges starring in “Iron Man,” “Tron: Legacy,” and “R.I.P.D.” to Moore working on “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,” the film already has the ideal foundation to start. Barnes, on the other hand, is probably the one most comfortable in this particular line of work with a repertoire consisting of “Stardust,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and “Dorian Gray”.

Harrington comes from “Game of Thrones” fame, which will surely follow him for the rest of his days, in addition to working on films “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D” and “Pompeii.” Vikander has a long list of credits, the most prominent of which being “A Royal Affair,” “Anna Karenina,” and “Ex Machina.” Williams joined her in “Anna Karenina,” in addition to roles in “Peter Pan” and “Hanna.”

Traue may have started working in German films, but she has recently branched out, most notably to appear in “5 Days of War” and “Man of Steel.” Hounsou rounds out the cast, with his credits from “Eragon,” “Push,” “The Tempest,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
