Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ Brings Magic to the Big Screen
It’s a story that’s been told a dozen times. This time around Disney has decided to pull from their own stock and redo “Cinderella,” but with live-action and a few twists. Their latest version hits theaters March 13.
Most people have heard at least some version of “Cinderella.” Young, pretty girl is orphaned and left with an evil stepmother and two horrendous stepsisters. They treat her horribly, there’s a ball, a fairy godmother, animal pals, glass slippers and a happily ever after. That’s the basics of Disney’s 1950 story and pretty close to the 2015 version coming out 65 years later. Only this one is not animated and includes several plot twists to shake it up and give audiences something new to enjoy and fall in love with as though it is the first time they’d ever heard the tale of “Cinderella.”
Instead of meeting at the ball, the soon-to-be princess meets the Prince beforehand. In addition, the fairy godmother is more intrinsic in this version than she was in the 1950 version. For those wondering, there will be helpful mice friends. The incorporation of all the fairy tale elements, such as the pumpkin carriage are stunning.
Starring as the title character is “Downton Abbey’s” Lily James. She has revealed that her favorite part of playing the iconic character was being adorned in the classic blue ball gown. Two other Television stars make appearances as well. Richard Madden of “Game of Thrones” is Prince Charming and Hayley Atwell from the hit Marvel universe based “Agent Carter” stepped into the role as Cinderella’s mother. Rounding out the cast is Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother and in the role of the fairy godmother, very fittingly is Helena Bonham Carter.
“Cinderella” opens in theaters March 13.
