Damien Rice to Light Up Greek Theatre
Stephanie Hernandez
Irish singer-songwriter, Damien Rice has been strumming out some of the sweetest indie rock around since 2002. Now with the release of this third and most ambitious album, “My Favorite Faded Fantasy,” Rice is on tour and ready to take on the United States.
Rice began his musical career as a founding member of the rock band Juniper back in 1997. The group experienced some success with the release of a handful of singles, but due to creative issues between the band and record company, Rice left the band. Spending the subsequent few years as a farmer in Tuscany and busking around Europe for a living, Rice eventually made his way back to Ireland in 2001 to start on his solo career. One year later Damien released his debut solo album “O,” generating three top 30 singles and reaching number eight on the UK album charts. His 2006 follow up record, “9” featured multiple tracks that were featured in various film soundtracks and television episodes and won him a spot at the 2007 Glastonbury Music Festival. Rice spent the next year collaborating on many charitable giving projects like “Songs for Tibet: The Art of Peace” and 2010’s song “Lonely Soldier” for the Enough Project.
After years of contributing to other’s works Rice released his much-anticipated third album “My Favorite Faded Fantasy” in late 2014. Produced by Rick Rubin, recorded in Los Angeles, and finished in Iceland the record was destined to be amazing.
With his latest release garnering Rice critical acclaim and commercial success, this current international tour is sure to cement this place as one of the most moving songwriters today. For those who enjoy intimate and heartfelt shows, Damien Rice is definitely not one not to miss.
