Disney Goes Sci-Fi with ‘Tomorrowland’

The last time someone checked, Disneyland raked in $2.2 billion a year. It’s considered the “happiest place on earth” and now the moneymaking giant is looking to rely on one of the lands within its confines. “Tomorrowland” is based around the idea of the futuristic land inside its theme parks, but instead of being light with anthropomorphic creatures, it stars a colorful cast from all walks of life in a sci-fi adventure film.

George Clooney stars as a once kid genius turned eccentric inventor, and Britt Robertson as a young precocious teen. The two come together after they realize they share a collective memory that includes a place in time and space. This place, of course, is called Tomorrowland.

Robertson is having a great year so far. Fresh off “Under the Dome,” she has already starred alongside Scott Eastwood in “The Longest Ride.” So a newcomer to starring roles, an A-lister with Clooney and then a cascade of other actors coming together for what can only be explained as a variety pack of talent. TV’s Hugh Laurie, music’s Tim McGraw, and funny girl and guy Judy Greer and Keegan-Michael Key all round out the cast.

Tomorrowland” opens nationwide May 22.
