Elvis Perkins to Play Intimate Show at Hollywood Forever

Elvis Perkins made his first foray into folk rock back in 2007 and has never looked back. Perkins’ innate ability to produce emotionally raw and heart-rending music has quickly gained him a cult following worldwide. This singer/songwriter’s great story telling abilities are best witnessed live, we suggest catching this act when he hits the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Perkins was raised on both ends of the United States, from Los Angeles to New York City in his later years. Named after his father’s love of Elvis Presley, Perkin’s took to his namesake and found an interest in music early on. First picking up the saxophone as a child before taking guitar lessons in high school from one time bassist of The Knack, Prescott Niles. Playing in various rock bands, Perkins’ found his niche in classical compositions. At the time Perkins was also fond of writing poetry, this love eventually turned into lyrics over his guitar riffs, and shaped what was to become his debut album, “Ash Wednesday” in 2007.  The album is an incredibly personal and somber work, dealing largely with the death of his mother on American Airlines Flight 11 on September 11, just one day before the ninth anniversary of his fathers’ death. The emotional subject matter captivated listeners on his subsequent tour in promotion of the album, aiding in the creation of his sophomore work, “Elvis Perkins in Dearland” in 2009.

Six years have gone by and Perkins’ has finally decided to appease fans by releasing a new record entitled, “I Aubade” on his own label MIR earlier this year. Refreshingly honest and stripped down, Perkins’ has truly mastered the art of understatement. If you enjoy intimate and powerful shows, Perkins is not one to miss.

Elvis Perkins will take the stage at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery May 13. Tickets available here.
