Dan Levy and Friends

If you find yourself free on any Tuesday night this month and in the mood to laugh, be sure to check out “Dan Levy and Friends” at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood at 10pm. Bespectacled funny man Dan Levy, 33, grew up in Connecticut and attended Emerson College in Boston. While a sophomore he was named Funniest College Comedian at the prestigious HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. He went on to tour with CollegeHumor and could regularly be seen sitting alongside Chelsea Handler at her roundtable on Chelsea Lately, and after winning yet another award, the Young Hollywood Award for Best Comedian in 2011, Levy released a comedy album appropriately titled “Congrats on Your Success.”

“I feel like I’m just getting funny now, honestly,” Levy told American Comedy at the time.

Levy later appeared in the film A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas as well as TV shows Enlightened and The Office. He also has producing credits under his belt, including Pretty Wild, the short-lived E! reality series featuring Bling Ringer Alexis Neiers, and, according to his Facebook page, he collects knives and sneakers. Recent Dan Levy developments include hosting the webisode “Nice Kicks Presents: Kickin’ It With Dan Levy,” his 2013 comedy album “Running Out of Minutes,” and his son Abe, whom he welcomed with his wife, Cougar Town writer Rachel Specter, in May 2013.

Marriage and fatherhood are common themes in Levy’s act. In a recent Laugh Factory Show, the comic joked about the apprehensiveness he felt about having a son: “I don’t know how to do catch…What am I gonna teach this kid? ‘Here’s how you Google.’”

The Laugh Factory has been a hot comedy spot on the Sunset Strip since it opened in 1979.  Founder Jamie Masada grew up in Iran and fell in love with comedy at the age of six when his father took him to see the first moving picture in Iran, a low-quality broadcast of The Three Stooges. In addition to the Hollywood location, Masada has opened franchises in Long Beach, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Comic Eli Oslberg is scheduled to appear with Levy on August 5. Like Levy, Olsberg has appeared on Chelsea Lately, and with comedian T.J. Miller he produces the bi-weekly comedy show “Performance Anxiety” at The Pleasure Chest in West Hollywood. The other “friends” have yet to be announced, but in the past, Levy has done shows with Aziz Ansari and Kevin Nealon.

Other topics that Levy has been known to tackle include pornography, the fact that he sometimes gets mixed up with Canadian TV personality Dan Levy – “His father is Eugene Levy, famous actor. Not like my father Eliot Levy, guy who sells blenders.” He even talks about Justin Timberlake’s shoes, since he once met the singer at the gym and complimented his sneakers.

Dan Levy will be performing Tuesday nights in August at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood at 10pm. Advance tickets for “Dan Levy and Friends” can be purchased online at www.laughfactory.com, and be sure to check out Levy’s official website www.danlevyshow.com
