British Electronic Duo Snakehips Show Sexier Side of R&B at The Novo

Snakehips is a British electronic duo bringing the sex appeal of R&B into their dance floor creations. Consisting of EDM lovers Oliver Lee and James Carter, these two formerly independent producers-turned-friends by chance, today are a remixing enigma. Making their name by switching things up for artists like The Weeknd, Banks and Bondax, these two are finally recreating music for themselves for a change. Their debut EP Forever, Pt.IIis taking over UK radio and something tells us it wont be long until the United States catches up.

Both Lee and Carter were musicians in their own right before deciding to come together in the late 2000s. Taking time to study a multitude of instruments before honing their skills in digital music production gave the duo an extensive knowledge of composition and an ability to pull from a variety of musical genres. The pair did not cross paths until 2012 while both were coincidentally working on separate projects in Hong Kong. A happenstance meeting occurred at the popular spot Sake Bar Ginn where the two bonded over similar music tastes and agreed to meet up together o discuss collaborative opportunities before their trip back to the UK. As luck would have it, the duo ended up on the same return flight home and with just one seat in between them they began their road to musical bliss then and there. Creating low key vibes with effortlessly sexy beats, Snakehips likes to keep things focused. Keeping it old school, the pair work from a singular laptop, allowing their love of classic hip-hop, 1980s soul, disco and jazz to take center stage. Though inspired by the past, Snakehipsprogressive thinking comes through on every track – something their millions of Soundcloud followers know to be true.

Still riding high from the release of their hit single, All My Friends, the track features American singer Tinashe as well as the man of the hour, Chance the Rapper. Peaking at number five on the UK Singles Chart and selling out arenas abroad, we cant wait to see what kind of debauchery follows these two on this side of the pond.

Snakehips will take on The Novo by Microsoft April 21. Tickets available here.
