Make Way for Sheezus: Lily Allen is Taking Over the Palladium

English Singer/Songwriter Lily Allen will reclaim her place in the spotlight at the Hollywood Palladium on October 10. The 29-year-old pop mainstay is on tour promoting her latest album Sheezus, which is currently receiving an uproar of positive reviews in both the U.K. and the States. Fans are absorbing as much of Allen’s music as they can, now that the singer is touring again after a prolonged hiatus. The new album’s popularity is due to hits like “Hard Out Here” along with the fandom for the artist’s classic songs, and Allen is set to deliver it all in a great Los Angeles performance.

Allen received her big career break in 2006 with her first mainstream single “Smile.” The song reached number one in the U.K. singles chart, which put her first studio album Alright, Still on the map. Allen’s second studio effort was It’s Not Me, It’s You, which shifted out of her reggae and ska influences into more of an electronic pop sound. The singer then took a few years off to open a fashion rental shop with her sister, but returned true to form in late 2013 with the release of a music video for “Hard Out Here,” the first single from the album Sheezus.

Sheezus explores Allen’s developed pop style and includes a cover of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” a stripped-down piano version that showcases Allen’s soothing voice. the album makes a variety of pop-culture references, sparking the attention of critics and listeners alike. For starters, Allen has admitted that Sheezus is a nod to Kanye “Yeezy” West. “I wasn’t intending to make fun of him,” Allen said to the New York Post. “The title was a joke. I love Kanye and I’m inspired by his music but also that he doesn’t censor himself. He doesn’t care about what people think, and that’s something I aspire to.” In the song “Sheezus,” the singer namedrops pop stars Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Lorde as lyrics mention how Allen is prone to being compared to these artists even though it’s “dumb” and “embarrassing.” Whether Allen is acknowledging these artists out of respect or ridicule is an active topic of discussion for fans. Furthermore, the song “Insincerely Yours” takes a blow at the celebrity/tabloid scene by calling out Singer Rita Ora and Model Cara Delevingne, while another song was inspired by a 2013 Twitter feud between Allen and Rapper Azealia Banks.

Regardless of the pop-culture drama, fans of Sheezus or anyone nostalgic for Allen’s earlier releases will come out to in droves see her bring the house down at the Hollywood Palladium.
