Alt 98.7 Showcases the Lumineers, Empire of the Sun, Glass Animals at ‘December 2 Remember’ Concert Series

To ring in the holidays, Los Angeles radio station Alt 98.7 presents its annual Christmas concert series, “ALTimate December 2 Remember” The series features a slew of alternative acts playing various venues throughout mid-December across the city.
Kaleo at The Roxy | Dec. 5
First up, Icelandic rock ‘n’ roll foursome Kaleo. Formed in 2013, the group was an instant success in their island homeland upon the release of the self-titled album. The hit single (“Way Down We Go”) was picked up by TV shows and video games due to its raw magnetism. From there, it’s been a whirlwind of stateside shows and national recognition for these Nordics.
Miike Snow at El Rey Theatre | Dec. 6
Swedish indie-pop band Miike Snow will take over El Rey on Dec. 6. This trio became well-known after their single “Animal” tore through radio station across the country, including Alt 98.7. The guys have described their musical ethos as an “imaginative adventure … put together in a fictitious universe.”
Cold War Kids at El Rey Theatre | Dec. 7
Hailing from LBC, these indies have seen a cult following for a decade. The most recent album, “Hold My Home,” was released in 2014, and they’ve been going strong ever since via touring and through the release of standalone singles such as “Locker Room Talk.” Yes, that is a reference to the president-elect.
The Lumineers at Fonda Theatre | Dec. 7
These folk darlings have achieved immense success with hits such as “Hey Ho” and “Ophelia.” A primarily acoustic trio, they’ve managed to create a sound so rich and full that it’s hard to believe a lot of their songs on their latest record “Cleopatra” are just the three of them, sans drummer.
Empire of the Sun at the Novo | Dec. 8
Leave the acoustic guitars behind as electronic duo Empire of the Sun turn downtown hotspot Novo into an eccentric wonderland of sound and color. And these Aussies don’t hold back on fashion, with their outrageous glam-rock style outfits.
Fitz and the Tantrums at the Roxy | Dec. 12
Local neo soul band Fitz and the Tantrums have been making waves since their debut studio album “Pickin’ Up the Pieces” was released in the summer of 2010. This hard working six-piece has a penchant for forcing everyone to groove. Fans at The Roxy on Dec. 12 should expect to hear retro-inspired, Motownesque ballads with a full horn section to accompany plenty of gyrating.
Glass Animals at El Rey Theatre | Dec. 12
The band released its latest full-length album titled “How to Be a Human Being” to critical acclaim. The album reached No. 20 on the US charts and sent these psychedelic rockers to the forefront of indie music culture.
