This secret garden located in the Hollywood Hills will make you feel as if you have left the country and entered another era. The setting is so authentic that this destination has doubled as Japan in Hollywood movies, including Memoirs of a Geisha and Kill Bill. With a name that means “Mountain Palace” and a rich history to go with it’s breathtaking décor, the executive Chef Brock Kleweno has cultivated an incredible menu of both Californian and Asian fare for the palettes of his devotees. From sushi to gourmet chicken, there is something for everyone.

The Restaurant at The Getty
Moving towards the westside, our next restaurant can be found at The Getty, and what better way to experience the sights than by pairing it with lunch or dinner. Elevated with floor to ceiling windows that provide an unobstructed view of Los Angeles, on a clear day you can see from Downtown to the oceanfront. The menu here changes seasonally and reservations are recommended due to its popularity, and for those wanting to enjoy a more casual atmosphere can always try the Garden Terrace Café. The Getty also has designated picnic areas where you can either pre-order a box lunch picnic or bring your own.

Moonshadows
Nestled on a cliff off the PCH in Malibu, this mellow beach hangout has an exquisite view of the sunset while the waves crash nearby. With stiff cocktails and quality menu options, visitors can either commit to a full dinner or visit the Blue Lounge, which is located on the outdoor sundeck and at night hosts live DJs with the best way to accompany your evening. Most notable at the Blue Lounge is the Sunday social for those eager to hit the scene.

The Penthouse at The Huntley
Located atop the The Huntley hotel in downtown Santa Monica, the Penthouse restaurant delivers stunning views of the oceanfront. Brunch is the ideal time to make a reservation and treat yourself to the experience, so try their ricotta pancakes and order a mimosa to start your day on a perfect note. If you arrive with a large group, you can ask for one of their cabana style dining tables and feel like you’re dining at a private retreat. Small lounge areas for anyone looking to grab a cocktail or appetizer are the ideal setting for an intimate date night.

Coast at Shutters on the beach was designed with the kind of casual luxury only the New England area can provide. Out-of-towners are frequent visitors to this east coast transplant that boasts a wonderful seafood menu and a weekly local farmer’s market dinner special. For $32 you can sample a three course meal made entirely of local ingredients at the Coast Beach Cafe and Bar. The Living Room at Shutters on the Beach is one of the most relaxing venues to enjoy the beach sights of Santa Monica and the heated lobby terrace brings you even closer to the ocean.
