Puddle Of Mudd Bring Their Action to El Rey
Puddle Of Mudd were a staple in the early 2000s and have managed to continue on their path all these years later. Catch them when they play the El Rey Theatre on April 4.
Many aren’t aware Puddle Of Mudd didn’t just come out of nowhere with their hit “Blurry” in 2001. No, they were working hard and hitting the pavement for a decade prior to bursting into the mainstream. Singer Wes Scantlin started the band back in 1991 in Kansas City. The story goes that he then found his way near Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst and handed him a demo tape. One thing led to another and Wes was heading to LA, one step closer to making music his fulltime job.
The band proved that when it comes to being in a band, hard work and determination is key. They could have tossed in the towel in 1997 when their first album didn’t take them anywhere – many would have, but they continued. In 2001, their record “Come Clean” took them from a band no one knew, to one of the leading rock bands of the year thanks not only to “Blurry” but the quite infectious “She Hates Me.” Their flame started to dim with the changing tides of the music industry, but diehards kept them from throwing in the towel. With that they continued to release music and had another rock hit in 2007, “Psycho.”
Their last album, 2009’s “Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate” fared well and they’ve been touring off that and other past records. While their last record was in 2009, they had a new single in 2014, “Piece of the Action.” There’s no word on if there is a new album in the works, but Puddle Of Mudd are keeping fans happy by touring. Their 2015 tour has them all over the US and in parts of Canada throughout September.
