Bastille, Ella Eyre, and Grizfolk to Excite Fans at Shrine Expo Hall

Rooting from London, not the ancient city of Pompeii, is the rock band Bastille, who will be gracing the stage at the Shrine Expo Hall on Nov. 20 with their beautifully piercing vocals to mimic the Monument’s alluring atmosphere. Touring down the coast of California, the U.K. rock team is led by Dan Smith, a singer/songwriter who created the band after a mildly successful solo artist career. The origin behind the name, “Bastille,” comes from Smith’s birthday: July 14, which marks the start of the French Revolution, dubbed Bastille Day.

Dan Smith started writing music secretly as a teenager and wasn’t discovered until his friend at school covertly submitted him for a competition. After graduating and returning to London, Smith turned to local musicians to join his side.

Bastille’s emotion-inducing sound hopped on the radar quickly after single “Pompeii” from album “Bad Blood” was released in Feb. 2013. The catchy tune was instantly grasped on the radio and in clubs, becoming a popular song to build a remix of. Bastille released a chilling orchestral rendition of “Pompeii” recorded at Capitol Studios in 2013, proving their musical expertise. The song also climbed to No. 5 on the U.S. charts and No. 2 in the U.K. that same year. Most recently, the band has released two singles to join existing album “Bad Blood.” and have announced the release of a mixtape in Dec.

Appearing at Shrine Expo Hall, Bastille will take the audience by surprise with their versatility, eager to blast heavy percussion, followed by the abrupt shift to simple, eloquent vocals. Smith and his equally talented band mates are notable for effortless blended harmonies, which will undoubtedly quench the audience’s thirst for an epic concert.

Joining the contagious sounds of Bastille are opening bands Ella Eyre and Grizfolk. Elle Eyre’s powerful vocals can be heard on Bastille’s tracks “No Angels” and “Free.” A 20-year-old Brit, Ella McMahon is a constant collaborator, under her stage name Ella Eyre, with artists like Naughty Boy and Rudimental. Eyre’s debut single, “If I Go,” was released this past summer and hit No. 16 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Grizfolk is the product created from the likes of two Swedish producers and Floridian singer/songwriter, Adam Roth. The use of energetic vocals and electronic pop elements gives them a similar sound to that of Bastille, making this concert an endless abyss of talent.
