Front Porch Cinema Presents Free Movie Screenings at the Santa Monica Pier

Free up your Fridays for free movie screenings this October at the Santa Monica Pier! The Santa Monica Pier presents Front Porch Cinema, a weekly city event this month that includes films, drinks, food, and fun! A great way to relax and unwind after a crazy week.

The entertaining event, produced by Eat, See, Hear, features different DJs each week. There will be great music right as the doors open at 6pm. Films will begin screening at 7:30pm so there will be plenty of time to eat, drink, and socialize with friends while enjoying music before the screening. There is a great selection of food and drink options, including various mobile food vendors who gather at the pier for the event.

This year, the event will kick off with a bonus screening of the film Higher, made by the snowboarding king himself, Jeremy Jones. Higher is a documentary about first time snowboarders ascending the highest peaks. This film will screen on Thursday, Oct. 2nd.

The first official film of the event will be on Oct. 3rd, and will feature Disney’s Frozen. Frozen has become a cultural phenomenon among both children and adults and is the highest-grossing animated feature film.

The October 10th screening will be of the Oscar-winning film, Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron. The science fiction thriller film was one of 2013’s biggest hits. The film stars A-list actors, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, who were both nominated for Academy Awards their outstanding performances in the film.

The following week will feature Wes Anderson’s acclaimed The Grand Budapest Hotel. The film centers on the adventures of a concierge and lobby boy at a famous hotel. It takes place between the first and second World Wars. Wes Anderson is known for his quirky characters, and this film definitely showcases that.

The final screening on October 24th will be of cult classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The John Hughes movie from 1986 is one of America’s most beloved films by audiences of all ages. The film stars Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller, a high school student who makes an elaborate plan to play hooky from school.

With such a great lineup of films, this is definitely the perfect place to spend a Friday night with friends, and for little or no money! Even if you don’t have a lawn chair, there are chairs available to rent. So no worries if you don’t want to haul yours over. Head on over this opening weekend and enjoy good food, good friends, and good films1
