Noah Gundersen Performing Live at El Rey Theatre

Seattle-based folk singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen will be making his mark on Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre on Nov. 21. He will be promoting his latest album “Ledges” during this fall tour, which was released earlier this year in February.

Originally hailing from Centralia, Washington, a small town neighboring Seattle, Gundersen had immense passion for music at a young age. He started taking piano lessons at age 13, and soon went on to teach himself guitar.

During his teenage years, Gundersen could be seen playing a slew of cafes, with his younger sister, Abby, making special appearances. The two of them have been producing music since 2005.

Gundersen’s sound has been compared to the likes of Damien Rice, David Wilcox, and Elijah Wyman, what with his strong vocals and heavy influence of lyrics, or rather poems, that effortlessly shape a story. He gained a heavy following in the South Puget Sound region, which led from him performing at small college basement shows to the well-known venues such as the Triple Door, the Crocodile Cafe and the Columbia City Theater.

In mid-2008 he released his first EP entitled “Brave New World,”, which featured his sister, Abby, on backing vocals and violin, along with Michael Porter on guitar. Second EP “Saints & Liars” was released later in 2009, featuring songs “Caroline,” “Middle of June,” and “Oh, Death” that had been made popular prior to the drop on his MySpace page. For this piece he officially compiled a band, originally called Noah Gundersen and the Courage and now simply known as The Courage, which features brother and sister, bassist Travis Ehrenstrom, and drummer Ivan Gunderson. Since then The Courage has released “Fearful Bones,” with Noah Gundersen following with two additional solo albums, “Family” in 2011 and his latest “Ledges.”
