Neil Diamond Brings His Classics to Hollywood Bowl

American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond has been going strong since 1962. Now at age 74 Neil has written 32 studio albums, 37 top 40 hit singles has sold 125 million records worldwide. The man is a legend and, luckily, for Los Angeles he will be taking the Hollywood Bowl for a two-night spin.

Neil Diamond was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1941. Young Neil had various interests as a child, and none of them were musical. While in high school he fell in love with fencing, his exceptional skills won him a scholarship to attend New York University where he was a member of the 1960 NCAA men’s championship team. Originally entering college with the desire to study medicine and biology, in his final year at NYU Neil was discovered by a music publishing company that offered to pay him $50 a week to write songs, the rest is history. His first commercially successful moment as a songwriter came in late 1965 with his song, “Sunday and Me” which became a top 20 hit for Jay and the Americans. He continued to write hits for others, from “I’m a Believer” to “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit you” who were all taken up by the Monkees. Eventually Neil signed onto Bang records in 1966 as a solo artist, and released his single “Solitary Man” under his own name. Decades and dozens of record releases later, the world is still feeling the impact of Neil Diamond’s work. Neil was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and subsequently into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. Diamond is also one of the world’s best-selling musical artists of all time as well as the third highest grossing adult contemporary artist right next to Elton John and Barbra Streisand.
