‘The Boy’ Creeps Into Theaters

Lauren Cohan stars in the “The Boy,” a horror film revolving around a British family called the Heelshires. When Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire have to go away on a trip they hire an American nanny, Greta (Lauren Cohan), to watch after their son while they’re gone. However, when Greta finally meets the boy she discovers that he is actually a life-sized porcelain doll that seems to have a life of its own.

Cohan is best known for her role as Maggie in AMC’s hit show “The Walking Dead” but this will be her first major appearance outside of the zombie-apocalyptic show.  Aside from several smaller appearances in works like “Archer,” “Casanova” and “Death Race 2,” Cohan has yet to anchor a big film like this.

Cohan co-stars alongside Rupert Evans whose biggest credit includes “Hellboy” back in 2004.  This is a familiar formula.  In fact,“The Forest” is doing something very similar.  Both include an actress that plays a smaller but important character in a hit TV show, both are horror films and both are coming out in January.  But whether this is a winning formula remains to be seen.

The Boy” comes to theaters on Jan. 22 nationwide.
