FKA Twigs to Perform at Regent Theater

The dancer turned experimental musical artist turned producer, FKA Twigs, will be commanding the stage with her usual fervor at The Regent November 21 and 22. She played a sold out show at the El Rey Theater in August and quickly scheduled the upcoming two-night engagement at The Regent. Her first full album, “LP1,” dropped in August of this year.

During a relatively normal upbringing in Gloucestershire, UK, FKA Twigs attended Catholic high school by day and started making music in a Jamaican youth club by night. After moving to London at age 17, she started working as a back-up dancer for pop artists such as Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran and Taio Cruz, and is featured in one of Jessie J’s music video. People began calling her “Twigs” because of how loudly her joints would crack when she danced. As there was another artist going by the same name, she added “FKA” (“Formerly Known As”) to the front of her stage moniker to avoid confusion.

Now a music video diva in her own right, FKA Twigs has been hailed for her vision and creativity in her experimental videos and performances. In 2012, she self-released a video on YouTube for each song on her EP, and The Guardian called her “the UK’s best example to date of ethereal, twisted R&B.” This year, “LP1” was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which honors the best album of the year from the UK and Ireland.

FKA Twigs will be at The Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles Nov. 21 and 22. This event is currently sold out.
