Hozier to Impress With Intimate Show at The Fonda

Born and raised an Irishman, Andrew Hozier-Byrne has brought his music to America, earning an escalated fan-base in 2014 with help from his radio hit, “Take Me To Church.” After releasing his debut album, “Hozier,” this last September, which hit the US Billboard charts at No.2, Hozier is on the road for the next six months, performing at sold-out venues all over the world. One of these stops includes The Fonda Theatre on Feb. 6.

With soulful vocals and poetic lyrics, Hozier has taken the world by storm. Nominated for his first Grammy, Hozier is in the running for 2015’s Song of the Year for “Take Me To Church.” However, don’t think that hit is Hozier’s only claim to fame. Fans have recently been exposed to his eloquent and diverse musicianship with his debut record, taking listeners through a maze of beloved enchantments and blood-pumping soliloquies of brief and sensual love.

Aside from his catchy melodies, Hozier’s prime artistry lies in his lyrical abilities. Holding that in the highest regard for songwriting, Hozier strives to tell a story with every line. His talent with the stories that music can tell are apparent in his subversive music video of “Take Me To Church,” focusing on the atrocities against a gay couple.

Although growing up in a musical household in County Wicklow, Ireland, Hozier found his love of music with Chicago blues and Motown styles. He rests his ultimate influence on Delta blues, one of the earliest blues styles coming out of Mississippi in the early 1900s. Also finding a connection with writers such as Oscar Wilde and James Joyce, Hozier began meshing all styles he loved to create his unique, captivating sound.
