Carl Barât Going Solo at The Roxy

Carl Barât is best known for being the cup to Pete Doherty’s tea in the English rock band, The Libertines. Though the group disbanded in late 2004, Carl has done nothing if not kept busy. Forming The Dirty Pretty Things, The Jackals, as well as releasing solo work, Barât seemingly has not put down his guitar in the past ten years. Fans of the man will be able to can catch him stateside at his upcoming show at The Roxy on March 14.

Barât’s career in music began back in the early 2000s when he was introduced to singer and guitarist, Pete Doherty. After dropping out of university to pursue a career in music, the pair became good friends and just two years later formed The Libertines and released their debut album “Up The Bracket.” The album received critical acclaim and they quickly rose to fame in the United Kingdom. It was not too long into their success that Carl and Pete’s famed volatile relationship began. The Libertines were plagued by creative disputes, drug addiction, and physical altercations, eventually disbanding in 2004. Despite this Barât continued making music. He teamed up with producer Dave Sardy (Rolling Stones, Oasis) and formed The Dirty Pretty Things in 2006. His talent for songwriting, matched with his fluency in guitar, made for an impressive rebound. Though the group caught on, their stint together would be short lived, a mere two years later The Dirty Pretty Things called it quits.

However, like any truly talented artist, you can’t keep them way from their art. Since then Barât has formed a new group, The Jackals and Barât have released some solo work as well. Barât has pooled an impressive roster of collaborators onto his next solo album, including the likes of former Smiths member, Johnny Marr and Razorlight’s Andy Burrows. Barât clearly knows what he’s doing and we can’t wait to hear what this British rocker has queued up next.
