Funny Woman Anjelah Johnson Comes to Club Nokia

Anjelah Johnson, best known for her role as Bon Qui Qui in “MADtv,” will be coming to Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 27.  Johnson rose to fame after she embodied the over-the-top character, “Bon Qui Qui,” a worker at “King Burger” with attitude to spare.  After “MADtv,” she continued to perform standup and make several appearances in film and TV.

Johnson actually began her career as a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders where she was a Raiderette starting in 2002. She was named Rookie of the Year and performed at Super Bowl XXXVII.  However, she moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue her career in comedy. After one of her characters garnered a following on YouTube, in 2007, she joined “MADtv.” While her time on the sketch comedy show offered only sparse material due to the writer’s strike, one of her characters was particularly well received. Johnson’s portrayal of Bon Qui Qui, a fast food employee who treats her customers with insane rudeness, was her main claim to fame from her time on TV.

After her time on “MADtv,” she performed a one-hour comedy special with Comedy Central called “Anjelah Johnson: That’s How We Do It!” in 2009.  Since then, she has continued her career through standup, releasing several specials. In 2013, her second show “Anjelah Johnson: The Homecoming Show” premiered on Netflix, which was filmed in her hometown of San Jose, CA. Her third standup special “Anjelah Johnson: Not Fancy” was released on Netflix in late 2015.

Aside from standup comedy, Johnson has made several smaller appearances in films such as “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” “Enough Said” and “The Book of Life.”

Anjelah Johnson will perform at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Feb. 27.  Tickets can be purchased here.
